Why Not Tonight used one last push to surge by Can the Queen in deep stretch on the Laurel Park turf course to win the $75,000 All Brandy S. Sunday in her stakes debut.
The 4-year-old Tapiture filly is one of her sire’s 91 winners to date this year, which leads the Fourth-Crop Sire list. The Darby Dan stallion is also in the top five by stakes horses and progeny earnings.
Why Not Tonight was hustled out of the gate and settled into second along the rail as the field rounded the first turn. Can the Queen was up by some five lengths after a half-mile in :47.40. Why Not Tonight got within a half-length at the top of the stretch before the pacesetter re-broke to go up two lengths with a furlong to run. Why Not Tonight responded with another push, getting the lead in the final yards to win by a half-length in 1:41.30 on the firm turf.
All four of Why Not Tonight’s wins have come on the turf. She has $114,457 in earnings for Wasabi Ventures Stables LLC.
The winner was bred by Mr. and Mrs. Charles McGinnes.
